Kāryn Taylor, Fuzzy Logic

21 July - 13 August 2022
Overview

Kāryn manipulates materials, light, form and shadow to challenge our perception of the structures that ground our reality. Her practice is informed by geometric abstraction, which stems from her interest in quantum physics. Kāryn is interested in the idea that we are twisting reality on a moment-by-moment basis. Are we creating our world by consciousness alone, as quantum physics seems to suggest? If we know that everything is made up of energy and a lot of empty space, why or how are objects so convincingly solid?

For this new solo exhibition, Fuzzy Logic, Kāryn has added a new element to her works. Not just colour, geometry and light, but also a shifting of background tone with soft edged fill. She is playing with how the works push forms back or draw viewers in.

Fuzzy Logic is a term used in mathematics to represent uncertain information. Instead of a logic that insists on a yes/no or true/false binary answer, fuzzy logic represents humanistic decision making, which involves some degree of uncertainty.
