The Gates, Inaugural Exhibition

7 July - 4 August 2018
Overview

The Gates was the inaugural exhibition at Jhana Millers Gallery, then Millers O'Brien. It was a snap-shot of our aesthetic sensibilities, and our vision for the gallery.

The Gates brings together local, national and international contemporary artists working in a range of media for our first exhibition at Millers O’Brien Gallery. It's a snap-shot of our aesthetic sensibilities, and our vision for the gallery moving forward.

The title of the opening show is a nod to the history of the Mibar building, built in 1960-61 to house the New Zealand Horse Racing Conference. Located at 85 Victoria Street, the building is well known for its wavy canopy, curved balconies, and horse shoe detailing.

The Gates signifies the beginning of things, a starting point. Invested in each line up is weeks, months, and years of preparation, training and resources. Everything is ready and loaded, the anticipation builds, the audience is waiting, and then The Gates open.
