Connah Podmore’s drawing practice draws inspiration from her everyday observations. Recent projects have focused on her early experiences of being a stay-at-home parent, and depict the simple surfaces and bland details of her family home with poetic care.
Her stripped back domestic scenes explore a preoccupation with ideas of surface, transparency, layering and the passing of time; and her drawings are built through multiple iterations of mark marking and erasure which layer to create a subtle depth. Light and shadow frequently feature in her work alongside the likes of light switches, heat pumps and door frames.
A key aim of her work is to reflect the depth hidden within the seemingly simple, and through this, offer thoughtful, slow observations of the everyday surfaces that house our lived experiences.
