Overview

Shaun Waugh and Nathan Taare in the Gallery Foyer
Book launch and discussion, 5pm, Wednesday 13 August

Jhana Millers Gallery presents two works by Shaun Waugh from his newly published monograph Subject Failure, shown alongside LEAFY GREEN—a limited-edition fragrance by Wellington-based perfumer and multidisciplinary artist Nathan Taare (Of Body). These presentations are on view throughout August in the gallery foyer.

To mark the launch of Subject Failure, we’re hosting a discussion with Shaun Waugh, designer Anna Brown, and contributing writer Marcus Moore on Wednesday 13 August at 5pm. All welcome.

Subject Failure is the first monograph by Waugh, a Wellington-based artist whose practice explores the material culture of photography and the complexities of colour, image, and perception. Spanning 15 years of work and arranged chromatically, the book includes over 80 images and new texts by Emma Ng, Marcus Moore, and Matt Plummer & Alice Tappenden. Designed by Anna Brown and published by RIM Books.

LEAFY GREEN is a scent born from early morning daycare conversations between Waugh and Taare — “a snapped leaf—alive, then drying, curling, shifting colours through layers of green.” Only six bottles have been produced.
