"For the last two years I have been house sitting around New Zealand while I concentrate on making art full time. For the lockdown, I have found myself in Dunedin as I had been visiting my mother while waiting for my next house sit to start. Luckily I was able to create a studio space here which is big enough for me to play around with my animated installation works. Usually I’m confined to the kitchen table, the floor or a spare bedroom depending on where I’m house sitting. This gypsy lifestyle has me well practised in the art of change, so I don’t feel too affected by all the shifts in normality that are happening at the moment, although I do feel the pressure to be super productive in this supposedly amazing time for artists. I’m trying not to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of avenues I could wander down creatively now that I don’t have any upcoming deadlines to contend with.

My next deadline was for the Auckland Art Fair at the end of April. The Fair has been cancelled, but I had already made all my work and photographed it, well ahead of time so to be on the ball for possible promotion. The works are now sitting idle waiting for the art world to start up again, but that somehow isn’t concerning me — as an artist my first passion is to create, anything else is a bonus.

My mother has a small collection of my work, but all of my own collection is in storage, waiting for a time when I might settle into a place of my own."
