Kāryn Taylor, How to Construct Your Universe
Through these wall-based and installation works Kāryn Taylor explores the geometry of the Mystery Schools, a geometry that supposedly influences not only this physical domain but also that of higher dimensions, describing the intrinsic order of the universe.
Kāryn Taylor takes the square and the circle (a representation of matter and creation) and the three primary colours (red, blue and yellow) as the building blocks for this new exhibition. Through these wall-based and installation works Taylor explores the geometry of the Mystery Schools, a geometry that supposedly influences not only this physical domain but also that of higher dimensions, describing the intrinsic order of the universe. The square representing the physical world and the masculine, and the circle representing unity and the female, together they are said to contain 360º of all truths.
Kāryn Taylor is an installation and light artist who lives and works in New Zealand. She holds an MFA (First Class) from Elam School of Art, Auckland, 2013 and a BFA (Hons) from Massey University, Wellington, 2005. Her work has been exhibited widely throughout New Zealand and Australia, most recently at Te Tuhi, Auckland, Melbourne art Fair with Anna Pappas Gallery and the Sydney, and Auckland Art Fairs with Sanderson Gallery. In 2017 she was included in Personal Structures, Pallazo Mora, Pallazo Bembo, Venice, Italy and at Art-Athina Contemporary Art Fair, Faliron Pavilion, Athens, Greece. She was a finalist for the Wallace Art Award, 2014, and received a Merit at the Parkin Drawing Prize, 2017.
