Jade Townsend, ALL THE RAGE

7 - 30 March 2019
Overview

All the rage explores Jade Townsends new-found transient personal and cultural identity while referencing traditional Oceanic artifacts and responding to the fragility of seaside living.

Living in a tropical ‘paradise’ far removed from her homelands of Aotearoa and England, inspired Jade Townsend to embark on this temporal and intricate body of work. All the rage explores Townsends new-found transient personal and cultural identity, references traditional Oceanic artifacts and responds to the fragility of seaside living. Scouring the nearby beach daily for materials slowly transformed into a ritual of gathering contributions from people far away — connecting herself back to loved ones by the ocean, rather than divided by it. Dried plants, coat hangers, weighty pearls, fishing rope, shells and Nike swing tags are re-examined and inter-woven forming delicate, enticing and contemporary relics.
